Pet’s Information

Pet’s Name: Cali

Biography:

Cali needs a family with no other pets, and no children. She would do best with a single owner or a couple who wouldn’t mind her picking a favorite between them. Sometimes she might want that person all for herself. She needs a behavioralist, which we haven’t been able to find since January. We had her for about a month at that point. We are her third family. She is housebroken, however she needs something available to chew on. She loves dog puzzles, and they will go with her. She barks a lot, and our next door neighbor works nights. Cali barks during the night as well. She gets “crazy” around other big dogs. We don’t know her history. We can’t take her to the dog park, but our hope was to have a behavioralist work with her. She’s territorial over her food. So we always keep food in her bowl to help her learn that no one wants her food and it’s safe in her bowl. She loves belly scratches, doesn’t like baths, but having a regular groomer for a bath will help. Before she gets help with a behavioralist, it’s best that she goes when no other big dogs are present. Cali knows how to follow sit, give “paw,” and lay down (with a hand motion). She dislikes the laying down command, but with fI so for a tasty treat. She can respond to “wait,” but not when excited or distracted. She loves a big yard, and likes to play keep away when having a toy or ball, and tug of war. She’s competitive and doesn’t mind trying to knock someone down to get a ball/toy/stick. If you would like her to return the toy, have another one in your hand to exchange with her. She’s quick to learn and very intelligent. Her emotions and mentality need help, and a behavioralist/doctor is necessary. She needs more than just a trainer. We haven’t had luck in our area. UC Davis is still booked up. We’re rehoming her because we have kids, and she seems stressed. She loves them though. We have a busy street behind us and her strong sense of hearing and smell has her barking all the time. We play brown noise on Alexa to help her. We have a dog whistle, and we have a muzzle to remind her to stop barking. We need her to be quiet when we are doing schoolwork, or working. The previous owners didn’t give us any information about her. It’s sadly just not a good fit. We want Cali to be happy and comfortable. We are going to miss her a lot, but her happiness and comfort is more important. My kids are a little scared of her, but they love her. Cali is also a very funny dog! She knows how to make people laugh! She makes funny faces on the sliding door when she wants to come in. She likes to sneak in kisses, and she does it in a way that gets everyone laughing. She loves being brushed.
