Pet’s Information

Pet’s Name: Kobe

Biography:

We rescued Kobe in Feb 2020 at 8 weeks old…just before COVID really hit. Shortly after, we found out we were expecting a baby. Between COVID adaptations at work & pregnancy, we spent ALOT of time at home w/ Kobe & our 10yo dog Lily…snuggling, running, & giving Kobe a lot of attention.

The decision to rehome Kobe now is a terribly difficult one for our family! We love him dearly & will be heartbroken to see him go, but we feel we have reached a point where we cannot give Kobe the training, attention, & physical/mental stimuli he needs to be his best self.

Kobe is a lover, wants to be w/ his people, is easily excited, & strong as an 80# ox. He also gets bored easily & is a bit of a Velcro dog. He is good w/ our other dog but she is getting old & slowing down. He often plays too rough w/ her now. He is generally gentle with our toddler but when excited, he is a bull in a China shop which is frustrating which a little one.

Kobe had to have 8in of his intestines removed at 6mo old after he swallowed the squeaker from a dog toy which somehow became lodged in there for weeks. The object ultimately caused an infection of the intestinal lining.

It took about 6mo to figure out a food that digested well & resulted in solid bowel movements.  We settled on Hill’s Prescription Diet- Digestive Care I/d which does get expensive, but works the best for him.

We believe his digestive track remains affected from the removal of that portion of intestine, but consistency in food & minimizing opportunities for him to ingest things he shouldn’t have (when he’s bored & naughty) does assist him in maintaining fairly normal bowel movements.

I would love to share more about our crazy guy if you think you can love him!

Reason for re-homing:

The decision to rehome Kobe now is a terribly difficult one for our family! We love him dearly & will be heartbroken to see him go, but we feel we have reached a point where we cannot give Kobe the training, attention, & physical/mental stimuli he needs to be his best self. He takes medication for anxiety and needs regular training, attention, and structure to better succeed behaviorally.

He means well and just wants to be included in everything, but he is hard to handle on a leash, when guests are over, when we leave the house w/o him, etc.
