Pet’s Name: Kobe
Biography:
Kobe is a sweet, love-able, and energetic dog who needs an owner who is ready to throw a ball!
How He Came To Us
Kobe came into our lives shortly after our first child was born in 2018. He is a light hearted and silly dog who wants to always be in the mix... he has an adorable case of FOMO! He wants to be by your side at all times; head in lap to collect pets, sits hopefully in the corner of the kitchen while you make a meal, and resourcefully will provide any ball (or ball-like "throwable" object) for you to throw.
Kobe's Personality
Kobe has a ton of energy and needs to have it worked out through walks and fetch. Kobe's bouncy super-energy has honestly been a bit of a catch-22 for us. On one hand, he is the funnest little guy to play with! On the other, he gets over excited with lots of jumping, wiggling, and zoomies, which (with a toddler and a newborn) ended up being chaotic. He is extremely sweet with everyone- lots of kisses! However, since he really only has interacted with our one other (older) dog, he sees other dogs that pass by the yard and reveals a huge super bark! We do not frequent dog parks often, but when we do go, Kobe shows off his big bark. Otherwise, Kobe is very quiet at home and enjoys chewing on balls and ropes, bringing them into your lap in hopes that you will play fetch!
Lifestyle
Kobe has lived in Las Vegas, NV with two small children under age 5 his whole life, and with an older Husky Shepherd mix. He is truly a family dog and lives inside the house with us. He is potty trained using a dog door. He is typically fed kibble morning and night. But, recently (past month), we started adding in fresh food kibble toppers (kale, steamed carrots, blueberries, kefir, sardines, or an occasional dollop of organic pumpkin). Due to COVID stay-at-home and newborns, we do not leave the house very often (which we really regret), so Kobe is extremely eager to go on walks around the block and is (honestly) unfamiliar with dog parks but always so excited to go.
Health History
A very healthy dog! However, in 2019, Kobe had a terrifying scare. At this time, Kobe was in the thick of his chewing-puppy phase. He found a sock that had fallen out of the laundry and ate it (we had no idea). Over the course of a few days, Kobe stopped eating, started throwing up, and started hiding in corners of the house and yard. Over the course of 2 weeks we were in and out of the vet trying to figure out what was going on. After x-rays and many tests, we discovered that the socks had got stuck in his body and his kidneys were shutting down. We ended up having emergency surgery performed to save his life. He recovered well and returned right back to his playful and happy self. He has a scar from the surgery on his tummy (that we have noticed turns a little more pink in the extreme desert heat).
What Kobe Needs
Kobe needs a bit more hands on attention than we realize we can give him at this stage of our lives. He would excel with a dedicated owner who can consistently practice commands, walk him daily, and has the patience to match his bouncy and youthful energy. He has a heart of gold and simply wants to play! He is motivated by toys and playtime. Treats do work with him for teaching commands, but he is truly a toy driven dog! He needs a best friend that is ready to give him all the love, all the time!
