Pet’s Information

Pet’s Name: Maxwell

Biography:

Meet Maxwell! She’s a 3-year old, 65 pound female from Boston, MA who is notably gorgeous and loving, but unfortunately must be rehomed by her current owners. She was a “covid puppy” and got very accustomed to her people being at home much of the time. She’s been struggling with separation anxiety ever since her humans went back to work. She’s super sweet but needs someone home much of the time. Please read and share her bio!

Maxwell is an unwavering welcoming committee who loves to greet you with her favorite wubba toy and tail wags. She is also committed to her own comfort and loves to snuggle up with a few extra blankets in her bed for long afternoon naps in the sun.

Maxwell is a rescue from Texas who came to Massachusetts in early spring of 2021 and while she loves to jump in the snow, she is not a fan of spring showers. She spent her first year or so of life fending for herself, and we’ve worked very hard to acclimate her to having a home with many great results. Maxwell is fully house trained, crate trained, knows many commands such as sit, stay, place, shake, high five, come, and even a cute little “let’s dance!”. She also loves car rides and is very comfortable with travel.

Maxwell still has some ways to go outside of the home, particularly in busy environments like parks - she is a typical rescue dog who has learned reactive behaviors out of fear. She has been to training boarding schools, worked 1:1 with trainers, and has proven herself very smart and willing to learn if you’re willing to work and be patient with her. She walks well on a leash, but is easily distracted by (and can be reactive to) other dogs or certain people she can be redirected to the task of walking. She needs an adopter who will continue her training, but who also has strong dog experience, preferably with bully breeds.

The ideal home for Maxwell would be a bit (or a lot!) outside of the city with a yard (or farm!) of her own to run and run and run. She has never been around children of any age, so she’d do best with older teens, about 15 and up. She has only met a cat one time and she was not a fan - so cats need not apply!

Though dog selective, when she finds a good mate she gets so excited to run and play for literally hours on end.. She does best with dogs who are very secure, well trained and adjusted that she can take a lead from - she doesn’t want to be the boss, but will take on the responsibility if other dogs or adults won’t. We have been working for two years to make her feel confident and safe so she doesn’t feel the need to be the protector of herself any more. She still needs continued support in this area.

Please know that Maxwell is a loyal, loving, goofy, snuggly, silly, highly playful dog full of kisses and wiggles when she feels safe and secure. We want to find her a home who can nurture her and give her structure as well as time and patience to adjust to new surroundings. Maxwell is spayed and UTD on shots!
