Pet’s Information

Pet’s Name: Ranger

Ranger is a beautiful 5 yr old GSD I rescued about 4 years ago. He's your typical GSD: super smart, loyal, protective, and affectionate. He loves his tennis balls and his frisbee. He has a lot of energy and loves to get it out by going on walks, playing games, and throwing frisbee in the backyard. Ranger is up to date on all vaccines and is on both heartworm and flea/tick prevention. He takes no other medication other than an occasional carprofen from the vet for sore legs (We (the vet and I) believe he had pano when he was a puppy and he's suffered from sprains/inflammation here and there). I give him omega-3 for his skin and coat as well as a chew for his joints. The only medical issue he has is that he suffered from temporary paralysis in his hind legs over a year ago and even though he's fully independent, he didn't 100% recover his strength and so he can't do the same things he used to like hiking, long walks, and multiple frisbee sessions. We stick to one 15-20 minute walk a day, some frisbee throwing, and a couple of games of 'search' to get his energy out. He gets tired quickly.

Like I mentioned, Ranger is a protective dog and has a snapping/bite history that only extends to my partner who lives in the home. Ranger has never been aggressive outside the home. I can take him to the groomers (although, I don't take him anymore due to his injury) or the vet without a problem. I would recommend putting a muzzle on him if there is any extensive physical touch (trimming nails, checking something that might be wrong, etc..) as Ranger has always been very timid when being examined - he was like that when I rescued him. I am probably the only person to have gained that trust. I usually muzzle him when taking him to the vet just to be on the safe side, but they always tell me how good he is.

Ideally, I think Ranger would thrive in a quiet home without children or other animals. Prior GSD ownership is preferred, but not a deal-breaker. A fenced-in yard is a must. Ranger needs boundaries (no furniture, thresholds, etc...), so someone who can uphold those boundaries would be perfect for him.

I love Ranger with all my heart and rehoming him is one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make. He deserves all the love and care in the world.

Breed: German Shepherd

Gender: Male

Date of Birth: November 15, 2016

Color/Markings: White

Weight: 75lbs.

Size: Large

Reason for re-homing:

Ranger is a protective dog and has become very protective of me in particular. It has become unsafe for the others who live in my home and that's why I need to rehome him. We've been trying to remediate the problem for about 2 years with no long-lasting results and feel rehoming is our only option at this point.
