Pet’s Information

Pet’s Name: Stella

Stella is a two year and two month old tortoiseshell cat. She is spayed and up-to-date on shots, coming due for her rabies in January. She is on Heartgard for heart worm prevention, and Frontline Plus for flea and tick prevention. Stella has been seen by our veterinarian and a cat behaviorist for anxiety related to not getting along with our other pets - two cats and two dogs. They chase her and pick fights with her. We keep them separated as much as possible but this isn't a good home for Stella anymore.

With humans, she's the friendliest cat you can find. She is very loving and enjoys regular pets from her humans. She even likes belly rubs! She loves to play with toys and a laser pointer, and she really, really loves catnip. We have a tin of silvervine catnip and she loves to roll in it when you sprinkle it on her cat tree or the floor. Stella especially loves chasing toys that are attached to a string, they are her favorite. She plays with them every morning and every evening.

Stella can be slow to warm up to complete strangers - she will approach and check you out, but if you move or act like you're going to touch her, she might bolt. With our other animals, Stella is very standoffish - she will hiss, growl, and run away. She will frequently hide from both cats and dogs alike. Stella would do best in a home where there are no other cats for sure, and in a home where there are no dogs. She does not like to be chased, it triggers an anxiety response for her. When there are other cats in the house she doesn't get along with, she will pee outside the litter box - we worked with a behaviorist and the best guess is she's afraid she'll get attacked while she's using the box. We were able to isolate her in a room on her own with a brand new litter box, and she used the box in there without issue until one of the other cats snuck in and used it. Once their scent got into the box, she started peeing somewhere else again. We got her a new box and it fixed the problem - she needs a space where she feels safe to eliminate.

She did get along with a female cat of a friend who visited - the cat left her alone and they did not bother each other. They shared a litter box without a problem.

We have her on an all dry food diet, she is currently eating Purina Live Clear chicken flavor, and her favorite treats are the Friskies Temptations that have the filling. Stella is so friendly she will eat food directly out of your hand once she knows she can trust you. She does *not* like going to the vet. We don't really want to give Stella up, we adore her personality, friendliness, and love how great she is with the kids. But we feel it's the best chance for her to live in a happy home where she isn't worried about being chased by other pets. We hope you will love her as much as we do!

Reason for re-homing:

We got Stella 2 years ago when we got our two male cats, but she came from a different rescue. We have three cats and two dogs in total. All four animals gang up on Stella, chasing her and picking fights with her, and she has developed anxiety. We have seen a feline behaviorist since April/May of this year trying to solve the problem, but it has continually progressed and it's not a healthy or happy environment for Stella. Both our veterinarian and the behaviorist have suggested she would likely thrive better in a home without other animals. Stella is an incredibly friendly cat with us humans; we have three children under 5 in the house and she gets along great with them. She even likes belly rubs! She actively approaches the humans in the household, she sleeps between my husband and me at night, and sometimes with the other cats when they are calm. She is very snuggly and likes to be around her humans, and she does best in a home where she's the only cat and she gets lots of attention.
