Meet Maisie!
(Pronounced Macy)
Maisie is a sweet, affectionate, and loyal companion who loves being with her people. If you're looking for a dog who enjoys cuddling on the couch, riding along on adventures, hiking, and exploring the outdoors, Maisie may be your perfect match.
Maisie was found as a stray by a kind citizen before I adopted her around Christmas 2024, so very little is known about her life before then. Based on her physical condition when she entered the shelter, she had previously had a litter of puppies. Since joining my family, she has been deeply loved and has become a wonderful companion.
She forms strong bonds with her family and loves being included in everyday life. She enjoys attention, happily follows her favorite people from room to room, and is always happiest when she's near those she loves. She's intelligent, curious, food-motivated, and enjoys learning. She has moderate energy and especially loves longer walks, hiking, car rides, exploring new places, and spending time outdoors. Regular exercise and mental stimulation help her thrive.
Maisie walks well on leash and knows basic commands like "sit," although she benefits from continued consistency and positive reinforcement. She generally enjoys neighborhood walks and outings to places like Tempe Marketplace, where she's able to take in the sights and smells. If unfamiliar dogs get too close, she can become reactive, although she's usually much easier to redirect when there is more distance between them. I've also noticed that when she's getting regular, longer walks and consistent exercise, she's generally more relaxed and tolerant during outings. Dog parks are not a good fit for her.
She has successfully lived with another dog, but because she can resource guard high-value treats and bones, those items should always be managed separately and only given under supervision. She would likely do best with an adopter who understands dog body language and is willing to continue building her confidence through consistency and positive reinforcement.
Maisie does have a few medical considerations. She is spayed, current on vaccinations, and microchipped. She has a documented chicken allergy and currently eats Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein food (not Hill's Prescription Diet). She also takes Apoquel to help manage her environmental allergies. Depending on her future veterinarian's recommendations, she may eventually be able to discontinue Apoquel, but she will likely need to remain on a hydrolyzed protein diet long-term. I also suspect she may have sensitivities to salmon, fish, or potatoes, although those have not been definitively confirmed.
She is also fearful of kennels and has never become comfortable being crated despite patient and consistent attempts at crate training over the past two years. She does best with routine, enrichment, regular exercise, and a family that understands she simply feels safest when she's close to her people.
This has been an incredibly difficult decision because Maisie is truly loved. My hope is simply to find the home where she can continue to grow and receive the time, patience, consistency, and companionship she deserves. I know she has so much love to give the right family, and I hope they will love her as much as we have. ❤️

Reason for re-homing:
This has been an incredibly difficult decision and was not made lightly. I recently purchased my first home, and my HOA restricts pit bull-type breeds. At the same time, my life has changed significantly since adopting Maisie. Between working full-time, raising my son, attending college, and the responsibilities of homeownership, I've come to realize I can no longer provide the time, consistency, and attention that Maisie deserves. She is a deeply loved member of my family, and my only goal is to find a safe, loving home where she can continue to thrive and receive the companionship, patience, and care she deserves.
