Pet’s Information

Pet’s Name: Pancake

Biography:

Pancake is a lovely, happy, healthy dog.

Pulled from the lake with a shattered front leg, Pancake was feral for her first 6 mo. She’s been fostered with our family since.
She is very smart: rings doorbell to go in/out, can sit, settle, spin, jump up, and stay on command; has AKCS CGC. She is quick to pick up a command and is still learning.

She is not an alpha and would be happy with other dogs. Can be reactive. On walks she may react to sudden movements (wildlife, running dogs.) We believe she may have some unknown herding dog in her. At home she can be anxious of strangers, growls & tries to herd. Currently we crate, for safety, when guests come over; she settles quickly. This is a work in progress and she is getting better at dealing with doorbells and people at door or walking by. We have some friends who can visit without crating.

Pancake is allowed on some furniture but no beds.  She rests through the day on rugs, on her mat, or in a sunbeam on the carpet.  At night she is crated in the kitchen.  She is also not allowed upstairs to the play area and kids/guest bedroom area.

She is happy at daycare and boarding. More settled when with other dogs. Tri-pawed, she still walks 1-2 times daily & enjoys playing with toys in the house and in the yard.

We believe Pancake will do best in a home with other dogs to learn from, experienced owners and older kids. We have fostered her into a wonderful pet from her feral beginnings.  She is a lovely, healthy, happy dog.

Pancake is all up to date on vaccinations, has regular flea, tick, and heart worm medication, and has gone through all the surgeries for the missing limb to enable her a long healthy life without complications. She eats a Hills Vet diet (available online) to help her mobility as the joints in her remaining front leg get lots of use. She is also microchipped. She has never shown a tendency to run off through an open gate.

Reason for re-homing:

We rescued Pancake from drowning in Lake Woodlands. We took her to the local vet who nursed her back to health. When pulled from the lake she had fleas, and worms, and a shattered front leg. It was determined she was feral from birth.

As a family we decided to foster her until she was ready for her forever home.

It has taken 3 years, which has included multiple surgeries, and all of the necessary vet visits to get her ready for her forever home. We have done training courses with her and are continuing to work with her on all of her socialization, walking, and polite behavior.

She currently lives with 2 adults and 2 teens. She has always been happy and polite around the house.
Our life now, and in the future, involves lots of travel and longer stretches away. It is also really busy with 2 teens who are involved in activities.

Pancake is ready to find her furever home.
