Pet’s Name: Bear
Biography:
Name: Bear
Birthday: August 24, 2024
Weight: 60 lbs
Breed: Mixed (breed could not be determined by two veterinarians and two trainers)
Neutered: October 2025
Vaccinations: Fully vaccinated
Bear spent the first 10 months of his life with his original owners. I adopted him in May 2025 and have loved him deeply ever since. He has never been crated and has lived as a full member of the family.
Bear has completed two weeks of professional training at Animal Crackers in October 2025 and has also been evaluated by Stephanie Bennett at Believe in Dog.
Why Bear Needs a New Home
This is an incredibly difficult decision, and one that comes from a place of love and responsibility. I have a chronic medical condition that significantly affects my energy level. Unfortunately, I am no longer able to consistently meet Bear’s daily exercise needs, particularly regular walks. Bear is a high‑energy dog, and it would not be fair to him to remain in an environment where his physical and mental needs cannot always be met.
Bear deserves a home where his energy, intelligence, and enthusiasm can be fully supported.
Personality & Daily Life
Bear is an energetic, joyful, and highly intelligent dog. He thrives on daily walks—two a day if possible—and loves interactive play. He enjoys fetching toys and will happily bring them back again and again. Bear is exceptionally smart and even knows the names of his toys, such as “ball,” “shoe,” and “chewy.”
At home, Bear is affectionate and devoted. He is incredibly loyal and will follow his person from room to room. When left alone, he does well for extended periods and typically waits patiently by the door or watches out the window until his person returns.
Bear sleeps in bed with me and often considers himself a lap dog. He is loving, cuddly, and deeply bonded to his person.
Training & Socialization
Bear responds well to training and structure. During his professional training, he performed very well and demonstrated strong learning ability. He is absolutely trainable and eager to please, especially when given clear, consistent guidance.
Bear would benefit from continued training with someone who can confidently reinforce what he has already learned. While the training did not fully transfer to me once we returned home, this is not a reflection of Bear’s ability—rather, he needs a handler who can provide firm, consistent leadership.
Bear also needs continued socialization with other dogs. He was not fully socialized as a puppy, and as a result, he can be overly enthusiastic when interacting with other dogs. Trainers have described him as extremely eager to engage, sometimes to the point of being misunderstood. With proper guidance and controlled introductions, this is an area where he can continue to improve.
The Ideal Home for Bear
Bear will thrive in a home with:
- Active, energetic owners who enjoy daily walks and playtime
- Someone confident and consistent with training and boundaries
- A commitment to continued training and structured socialization
- Plenty of time, attention, and engagement
- Ideally, prior experience with energetic or working‑type dogs
Bear has so much potential and love to give. In the right environment, he will flourish.
Final Thoughts
This decision has been absolutely heartbreaking. I love and adore Bear, and letting him go is the hardest thing I have ever done. However, loving him also means putting his needs first. He deserves a home where he can fully thrive—physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Bear will be an incredible companion for the right person or family.
