Biography:
Poogan is a mature, well-behaved sweetheart. He is fully house trained, doesn’t get into mischief, and has a gentle mouth. No counter surfing, no getting into trash, no chewing things up. He is such a good boy. I like to call him “slowbedient” — he’ll usually do what you ask him to, just in his own good time. Like any pyr!! 😆 He’s not interested in toys and has a very low food drive. His primary joy in life is just being with you. Really the only “naughty” thing he does is stand at the fence and bark a lot, but that’s of course expected for his breed! We just live in town and try to not disturb our neighbors.
He is a velcro dog that likes to be by your side all day long. He loves squishing his head into you for neck scratches and being the first one to get all of your love and attention. He is pretty low energy, but will get the zoomies occasionally — especially in the snow!! He occasionally does happy bounces but does not jump up; he just might bump into you sometimes. He has no idea he’s big enough to get over our fence and is not an escape artist.
Poogan is a truly wonderful companion. His one weakness is his anxiety/fearfulness. He is very wary of strangers and scared of things unknown to him — especially new places. He need a lot of patience, gentleness, and confident leadership. He’s especially uncomfortable around children or people who come on to him too fast. He and our other dog (that is dog-reactive) get along 95% of the time, but they do hit rough patches every once in a while over space-related issues (will fight, but no bites or injuries). Our trainer says their compatibility is situationally dependent. Poogan does not resource guard from my husband or me, but he sometimes hovers around his bowl when our other dog is around and has growled at our daughter one time while he was eating. We do not feed our dogs high-value food around each other, just as a precautionary measure.
Bottom line: Poogan is not a confident, social butterfly — but in a familiar, one-on-one setting he is just a big hunk of love. Dog compatibility is situationally dependent, compatibility with cats is unknown. Poogan is healthy and up to date on all vaccinations and heartgard/nexgard.
